Initiated by Denbigh Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI), this scheme offered homeowners living in the conservation area grant funding to carry out external improvements to their properties. Lying in the shadow of Denbigh’s historic castle, St. Hilary’s Terrace and Leicester Terrace have undergone external enveloping works.

The project comprised the renovation of thirty properties, which remained occupied throughout the work. Historical sources were used to guide the repairs and restorations, and specialists were called on to ensure the refurbishment and enhancement of important features. Work consisted of the rebuilding of chimney stacks, new slate roofs and replacement of, and restoration to, existing box sash windows. External walls were re-rendered with lime mortar, whilst stonework and brickwork were re-pointed and cleaned.

Environmental improvements were undertaken and included the re-building of retaining and boundary walls together with the replacement of railings, gates and paths.
