Working in “Partnership” with Coleg Llandrillo and Capita Symonds the scheme comprised the design and construction of the New Construction Skills Workshop, classrooms and ancillary offices together with the new enhanced main entrance and student facilities and administration department.
Due to the “live” nature of the campus the project required careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption to the College and to ensure the safety of the users. The accommodation was designed to satisfy the latest technical requirements and involved new heating and lighting systems. The work involved extensive alterations to the existing concrete framed accommodation and necessitated all student facilities were kept “up and running”
The construction skills workshop comprised a two storey steel framed clad structure which was linked to the existing main block on two levels. The area provided new teaching and practical areas for students within one main facility.
The enhanced entrance to the main block comprised a new full height entrance mall with new two storey accommodation and facilities to either side linked by a high level walkway spanning the mall. The steel framed structure was designed with glazed cutain walling which allowed the space to be opened up to provide an aesthetically pleasing and bright environment.
Two storey accommodation to either side of the new mall comprised health and beauty on the ground floor with administration above to the one side, to the other side alterations to the existing kitchen and refectory to provide a new Coffee Shop to the ground floor with new kitchen and refectory on the first floor.
