Eirias High School: Colwyn Bay
The new state of the art technology building was developed in partnership with Conwy Engineering and Design Services and JIG Achitectural to create a three-storey, steel framed extension to the existing school.
Designed to complement the existing buildings on the school campus, the extension provides the school with facilities for art, design and technology with specialised technology and design areas, language classrooms, two new laboratories and a fantastic new library and resource area. The scope of work incorporated the demolition of the old “C” block and the construction of the new three-storey building which was undertaken within a live school environment and during a year in which an Estyn Inspection took place. The project was delivered on time and within budget.
New sustainable and eco-friendly characteristics form part of the design to include modern ‘windcatcher’ systems for passive ventilation, rainwater harvesting, modern underfloor heating systems, supplementary solar hot water heating and automatic energy efficient lighting systems which will reduce the school’s carbon footprint. Associated works included hard landscaping for car parking and playground facilities.
The new technology building will provide excellent learning opportunities for the pupils at Eirias High School.
