Wynne Construction was appointed by the University of Chester to refurbish the two four-storey student halls at the Padgate campus in Warrington. The buildings, which were constructed in the late 60's, were of facing brick on the outside, cavity and plastered internal blockwork, with tiled timber roof and cast in-situ concrete floors.
The external refurbishment work comprised the removal of asbestos and the replacement of external windows, doors, fascias, soffits and rainwater goods. Internal works involved the stripping out of existing fitted furniture, demolition of, and alterations to, the existing internal masonry walls to form en-suite and disabled accommodation on each floor, as well as the refurbishment of the remaining student bedrooms, communal kitchens and bathrooms. Electrical and heating systems were upgraded, new floor coverings provided and the residences redecorated. Throughout the duration of the works, the campus remained 'live'. Our site management team liaised closely with the University's project team and monitored progress through weekly 'PAC' meetings. This ensured that all deadlines were met, that a structured floor by floor re-occupation and a smooth end-of-project handover were achieved.
