Wynne Construction has been appointed by Gwynedd County Council to construct the new Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre in Pwllheli. The new facility will house an Events Hall, Restaurant / Café and Education Training rooms and will become the focal point for Sailing in Wales.

The project has received financial support European Convergence Programme, Welsh Government and Gwynedd Council. In order to develop the Academy Gwynedd Council has worked in partnership with Pwllheli Sailing Club, Welsh Government, North Wales Watersports, Plas Menai, Coleg Llandrillo (Cymru) and the Welsh Yachting Association.

Building Information

The facility is to be constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards with sustainable features to include Biomass Heating, photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting.

A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building's specification, design, construction and use. The measures used represent a broad range of categories and criteria from energy to ecology. They include aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.

The Welsh National Sailing Academy is a registered site with the Considerate Constructors Scheme

As a 'Considerate Constructor' we endeavour to ensure that our works have a limited impact upon daily operations. This project has been registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme and we are committed to meeting, and exceeding, CCS standards.

Work started on site in July 2014 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2015.
