The project involved the construction of a two storey extension to Glan Y Môr secondary school in Pwllheli together with remodeling within the existing building. The £2.4m refurbishment was part of a scheme to enhance and extend a number of schools in Gwynedd County.
The scope of work incorporated demolition of the classrooms to the south of the school hall and the construction of the new two storey teaching block and administration facilities. The corridor, which provides the link between the new facility and the existing building, has also been refurbished.
The work also included thermal upgrade and re-roofing of the existing flat roof and facade refurbishment to the kitchens and first floor accommodation. The frame of the building is steelwork, with cladding and facing brickwork externally and fair faced blockwork internally and roofing is a lightweight cladding system with an elastomeric covering. There were associated mechanical and electrical works, together with an element of external works, which mainly involved drainage and paving to suit the new layout.
The whole school refurbishment was phased to reduce any disruption to the school and the pupils.
