Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn is a school for pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Denbighshire County Council commissioned this unit as part of a new regional centre for autism in North Wales. The centre was constructed on the site of the existing Denbigh High School.
Working in association with Denbighshire County Council on this £1.3 million project, we created an environment that would encourage positive educational outcomes. The horseshoe shaped building incorporated a number of classrooms, a sensory room and staff facilities. We were also charged with the remodelling of a number of areas within the existing school. A road providing access to the new school and a thirty space car park were also created.
This project required close liaison with our client, the existing school and Denbighshire Design Services, and a thorough understanding of their needs and constraints. Together, we created an aesthetically pleasing building providing an area of interest and stimulation for both staff and students alike.
