Wynne Construction completes work on new Rhyl Travelodge

Wynne Construction completes work on new Rhyl Travelodge Wynne Construction has completed work on a new hotel forming part of a £25 million waterfront regeneration scheme in Rhyl. The townís Travelodge opened to the public on Friday 25 January after we delivered the project on schedule and to budget.

And thanks to our award-winning companyís policy of employing local supply chain partners, a total of 400 workers from the area played a part in completing the 2,785m2 scheme. The 73-bed hotel includes a render finish, bar and restaurant area, and a car park with 50 spaces.

Its design and build contract was awarded by Ion Development on behalf of Denbighshire County Council, and follows Wynne Constructionís waterfront work on the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre and Sky Tower in 2017.

Site manager Mark Wilson said: "The team has really enjoyed working on this development, particularly with many living in or close to Rhyl, and we are proud to have contributed to the Rhyl Waterfront regeneration. We faced some setbacks with the inevitable high wind due to working on the coast, but we progressed well and finished on schedule and to budget. It was a different type of project for us to work on and the workforce have gained and developed key skills throughout this hotel build."

Steve Parry, managing director at ION Development, said: "It's brilliant to see completion of this excellent addition to Rhylís seaside offering. We look forward to seeing the Rhyl Travelodge provide a boost for Rhyl's tourism economy as a key component of the councilís ambitious vision to transform and regenerate the waterfront."

Work on the three-storey building started in January 2018, and involved the lifting of pre-fabricated bathroom pods into the site using a 100 tonne mobile crane. The Travelodge is based on the site of the East Parade car park, and is situated next to a Marstonís Pub catering for 150 customers.

The contract was awarded under the North Wales Construction Framework, and is the second part of the council's regeneration scheme, which also includes a new Sun Centre 2 water park.

In November 2018, Wynne Construction was named SME of the Year at the UK-wide Constructing Excellence awards.
