The 'Built on Success' Awards aim to recognise individuals and companies who have made a major contribution to the thriving Welsh construction industry over the past year.
The Procurement Award recognises a company for implementing a best-practice programme for its suppliers as well as its work to procure materials and services which best fit clients' needs, budgets and constraints. Celebrating their award, Chris Wynne, Managing Director, commented:
"I am absolutely delighted that Wynne Construction has received this award and believe it is a very fitting tribute to the commitment and hard work of all the team. The Company has grown significantly over the past year due to the implementation of a number of key initiatives involving supply chain management, health and safety and people development. These have enabled us to further develop and improve procurement opportunities within the business, something which is critical to the ongoing development of the organisation.
I would also like to express my gratitude for the tremendous level of support we have received from Welsh Assembly Government/Construct Wales Programme & ConstructionSkills in helping us to achieve our business goals."
The recently completed project at Rhyl Community College (part of Coleg Llandrillo) featured in Wynne Construction's submission. The project involved the design and build of new construction skills workshop, classrooms and ancillary offices together with a new enhanced main entrance. Through an integrated supply chain management programme, the project was completed on time, ready for the start of the New Year in September 2007 and within budget. The processes which the Company successfully introduced in the project will be adopted for future projects.
Wynne Construction was one of a number of companies to be nominated for this year's Built on Success Awards which were organised by Construction Skills Wales and hosted by television presenters Sian Lloyd and Jason Mohammed. Keynote speeches were from author Steve McDermott, motivational speaker of the year 2007 and John Griffiths AM for Newport East and Deputy Minister for Education with special responsibility for Skills.
Wynne Construction has increased its profits by 20% and has developed an enviable position as a leading construction company, having secured some very significant contract wins in 2007.
As well as winning the Procurement Award, the Company was also short listed for the Business Development and Supply Chain Awards.
